Quadriceps and Patella Tendon Tears

The quadriceps muscle connects to the patella through the quadriceps tendon. The patella connects to the tibia via the patella tendon (sometimes called patella ligament). When the quadriceps muscle contracts, the knee extends (straightens). A complete tear through either the quadriceps or patella tendon will prevent you from straightening the knee. These tears require repair.
